With all the knee-jerk blaming of Snowden and encryption apps for the Paris attacks, it's interesting to note that much of the terrorist communication was unencrypted or mildly encrypted.
This debate about encryption, and the conflict between privacy and protection, has been raging for years - since the early 90s in my experience. I doubt it will be resolved any time soon.
